Aliens versus Predator for MorphOS ================================== Short: Aliens versus Predator Gold (NakedAVP) for MorphOS Author: Rebellion Developments, icculus.org AvP team, atsb (NakedAVP) Port: BeWorld Type: game/shoot Version: 1.30 (10.10.2026) Requires: MorphOS 3.x, sdl3.library 3.417+, TinyGL, original game data Arch: ppc-morphos 1. Introduction --------------- This is a native MorphOS port of NakedAVP (https://github.com/atsb/NakedAVP), the SDL3 / OpenGL source port of Fox Interactive / Rebellion Developments' "Aliens versus Predator Gold" (2000), itself based on the icculus.org Linux port (http://icculus.org/avp/). Play the Alien, Predator and Marine single-player campaigns, skirmish and bonus levels with hardware-accelerated 3D through TinyGL. This archive does NOT contain any game data. You need your own copy of the original game (see section 4). 2. MorphOS-specific additions ----------------------------- Compared to the upstream NakedAVP sources, this port adds: - big-endian PowerPC support (byte-swapping in the game data loaders) - native paths: game data, settings and saves in the game drawer (PROGDIR:) - OpenGL rendering through TinyGL and the shared sdl3.library - built-in FFmpeg for the Bink / Smacker movies and Ogg Vorbis CD music - frame rate counter on F11 - VSync On / Off option in the video options menu - mouse captured in window mode too, Ctrl + G to release it (the mouse could not be released before) - no debug messages in the Shell - $VER version tag 3. Requirements --------------- - MorphOS 3.x on a PowerPC machine with a 3D card supported by TinyGL - sdl3.library 3.417 or newer (SDL 3.4.17 libraries package), in LIBS: - A full copy of Aliens versus Predator Gold / Classic 2000 game data 4. Game data ------------ The game data is available from: - GOG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/aliens_versus_predator_classic_2000 - Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3730/Aliens_versus_Predator_Classic_2000/ - the original Gold edition CD Install the game on a PC (or extract the installer) and copy the content of the game directory to the drawer that holds the "AlienVsPredator" executable. The layout must look like this: AlienVsPredator <- the MorphOS executable avp_huds/ (required) avp_rifs/ (required) fastfile/ (required, must contain ffinfo.txt) FMVs/ (optional, intro and cut-scene movies) language.txt (required) ... (all other files of the game directory) MorphOS filesystems are case-insensitive, so the file names do not have to be converted to lower case as on Linux. 5. Running the game ------------------- Double-click the icon or start the executable from a Shell. The game always looks for its data in its own drawer (PROGDIR:). There are no command-line options in the MorphOS build. The game starts in fullscreen. Settings, key bindings, user profiles and saved games are written to the game drawer, so it must be writable (don't run it from a read-only volume or CD). Hotkeys: Alt + Return toggle fullscreen / window Ctrl + G grab / release the mouse (window mode only) F11 show / hide the frame rate (FPS) The mouse is captured by default, in fullscreen and in a window. In window mode, press Ctrl + G to release it (and get the mouse pointer back), and again to capture it. F11 is reserved for the FPS display (it is no longer the default "Say" multiplayer key). VSync can be switched On / Off in the video options menu. It is On by default, applied immediately and saved in the user profile. Gamepads supported by SDL3 are detected automatically. 6. Movies and music ------------------- - Movies: the logos, the menu background, the species intro/outro movies and the in-game video screens are played when the "FMVs" drawer of the original game is present. Bink (.bik) and Smacker (.smk) decoding is built in (FFmpeg), nothing else to install. Without the FMVs drawer the game runs normally and simply skips the movies. - Music: the original CD audio soundtrack can be played from Ogg Vorbis files. Rip the audio tracks of the original CD to Ogg Vorbis and put them in a "cd_tracks" (or "music") drawer next to the executable, named after their CD track number: track02.ogg, track03.ogg, ... (track 1 of the CD is the data track). Only Ogg Vorbis is supported (no MP3, FLAC or WAV). Without these files the game runs normally without music. 7. Known limitations -------------------- - No multiplayer (missing from the source port on every platform). - CD music only from Ogg Vorbis files (see section 6). 8. Build information -------------------- - Source: NakedAVP upstream commit 9225cef (2026-10-09) + MorphOS changes (big-endian fixes, paths, SDL3/TinyGL glue) - Compiler: GCC 9.5.0 (ppc-morphos-gcc-9), GNU Binutils 2.45.1, cross-compiled on Debian 13 - Options: -O3 -ffast-math -fomit-frame-pointer, libnix (-noixemul) - SDL: SDL 3.4.17 through the shared sdl3.library (not linked in) - OpenGL: MorphOS TinyGL - FFmpeg: 9.0.2, statically linked, LGPL 2.1+ build reduced to what the game needs: Bink, Smacker and Ogg demuxers, Bink, Smacker and Vorbis decoders, swscale and swresample 9. History ---------- 1.30 (10.10.2026) Synced with upstream NakedAVP 9225cef (new source layout, CD music rewrite from upstream fix #37). Debug output on the Shell (FMV:, CDDA: messages) removed. CD music from Ogg Vorbis files (cd_tracks/trackXX.ogg). F11 shows the frame rate. VSync option. Ctrl + G releases the mouse in window mode (it was always captured). 10.
