What is SVG? ~~~~~~~~~~~~
From http://w3.org/Graphics/SVG/
- "SVG is a language for describing two-dimensional graphics and graphical applications in XML."
What are the svg2pdf/png/ps tools? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I thought this was fairly obvious. ;)
From http://www.cairographics.org/
- "Cairo is a vector graphics library designed to provide high-quality display and print output."
This is the library used by these tools to convert an SVG into a PDF, PNG or PS respectively.
What is the SVGbatch tool? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Simply a script that will automate the conversion of a complete directory of SVGs to PNG, it can be run from WB or Shell (more options are available then).
What is the fc-cache tool? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's part of the fontconfig package.
From http://www.fontconfig.org/
- "Fontconfig is a library for font customization and configuration."
When run it will update/build a cache over all the fonts installed on your system. This cache is used by the SVG tools to find/pick the appropriate fonts for rendering text when needed.
Where do I get SVGs? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Search around, there's plenty of cliparts, icons, etc out there, some good places to start would be:
- http://www.openclipart.org/ - http://clipart.nicubunu.ro/ - http://www.inkscape.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Galleries - http://svgicons.sourceforge.net/ - http://www-jcsu.jesus.cam.ac.uk/~pgs31/kdestuff/kde_crystalsvg-latest.tar.bz2 - http://www.oxygen-icons.org/
