Thunderstorm shows the weather where you live, and wherever else you care to add:
what it is doing right now, and the seven days ahead.
Type a town in the box at the bottom, press Search, pick the right one from the
list -- there are several Springfields -- and Add keeps it. The list on
the left is yours from then on; a click on a place fetches its weather.
WHERE THE FIGURES COME FROM
---------------------------
Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), which asks for no API key: nothing to sign up
for, nothing to paste into the settings. Free for non-commercial use. Thunderstorm
uses two of its services: the forecast itself, and the search that turns a town
name into coordinates.
Both are HTTPS only.
WHAT IT SHOWS
-------------
Weather the selected day, large: its sky, its temperature, the wind with
its gusts and its direction, the rain and how likely it is, then
sunrise, sunset and the UV index. For today it is the reading of
the moment -- what it feels like, humidity, pressure; for a day to
come it is the highest and lowest, and the strongest wind expected
Almanac under the weather: which day of the year it is and how many are
left, how long the day lasts, and the moon -- its phase and how
much of it is lit. The moon is worked out, not asked for: the
service does not carry it
7 days a strip of seven: day, a picture of the sky, highest and lowest
temperature, the rain and the wind
Detail click a day in the strip and the hours of that day appear below --
hour, sky, temperature, how likely rain is, how much of it, and the
wind -- on a strip you scroll sideways
Rainfall is in millimetres, temperatures in degrees Celsius, wind and gusts in
kilometres per hour, pressure in hectopascals.
Clicking a day moves the whole window to that day, so the large picture always
agrees with the strip underneath.
The places are listed town and country side by side, and a search shows town,
country, latitude and longitude, each in its own column.
Accented names come out right: the service answers in UTF-8, and Thunderstorm turns
it into the Latin-1 MorphOS displays. What has no Latin-1 equivalent is
transliterated rather than lost, so Gdansk and Brno stay readable.

PROGDIR:Thunderstorm.prefs -- one line per place: name, country, latitude, longitude.
Nothing is written to ENVARC:, so the whole program travels in its own drawer.
