Bugs and missing features (you tell me)
I don't have access to the orginal soundsamples, so I just re-used some basic sounds I had available.
It is a working game, as close to the original as I could get it in a limited timeframe.
I reconstructed the game by various sources, looking at youtube and the C64 version as well as I played the online version at
https://itizso.itch.io/tomy-caveman (which have a few bugs I hope I have avoided, but grabbed screenshots from here
for the graphics.
Android version is compiled as well in order to have it on my phone.
It will not be released on google play but is available on request.
Keyboard shortcuts from main window (while game not running):
i = About
S = toggle sound on/off - can be toggled while game running
R = delete settings for joystick and resolution - restart game to apply
Space = Toggle show all sprites
O - Change resolution on the fly
ESC = Quit")
Movement is Left/Right arrows or Z/X, LContr or B to fire
Inherited from the Android version there are some invisible buttons on screen. You will probably never need them on the
desktop versions, but they are still active.
Upper left area - Clicking here will bring show the about info
Upper right area - Invokes the Quit requestor
Lower left area - Move left
Lower right area - Move right
Just above the lower right button - Fire
Gameplay is described in the attached pdf manual (original from the LCD game)
One tip though, the dinosaur moves fast and randomly so its advisable to throw your axe on it to temporary stun it in order
to safely grab the egg. The dino can only be hit while raised up, and the axe can only be thrown from one player position.
Upon first start you will be prompted to select whether you have a joystick attached or not.
Next you are prompted to select window size
You will have the option to save your answers to not to be bothered next time.
Requirements: It made with Hollywood, so it does need a gfx card and some horsepower.
